Is Basic-G+ effective against the coronavirus/COVID-19?
COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2, a novel coronavirus. Basic-G+ kills similar viruses and therefore can be used against SARS-CoV-2 when used in accordance with the directions for use against Norovirus on hard, nonporous surfaces. Refer to the CDC website for additional information. The EPA registration number for Basic-G+ is EPA #6836-364 and is listed on the EPA website as expected to be effective against the virus that causes COVID-19. Shaklee is a sub registrant for this listing although our name is not shown.
What are the directions for use against Norovirus that should also be used for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus?
Remove heavy soil deposits from surface. Thoroughly wet surface with a use-solution of 1/2 oz. per gallon of water or 3/8 tsp. per 16 oz. of water. The use-solution can be applied with a cloth, mop, sponge, or coarse-spray device or by soaking. For sprayer applications, use a coarse-spray device. Shaklee Basic-G+ Sprayer #50531 is recommended. Spray 6−8 inches from the surface and rub with a brush, cloth, or sponge. Do not breathe spray. Let solution remain on surface for a minimum of 5 minutes. Rinse or allow to air-dry. Rinsing of floors is not necessary unless they are to be waxed or polished. Food contact surfaces must be thoroughly rinsed with potable water. This product must not be used to clean the following food contact surfaces: utensils, glassware, and dishes. Prepare a fresh solution every day or more often if the solution becomes visibly dirty or diluted.
Can people make their own wipes with Basic-G+?
No. This is not safe or effective. You cannot make your own wipes, because this is not an approved use of the product. But you can mix Basic-G+ solution and use as directed on the label: Spray surface. Contact surface must remain wet for 5 minutes. Then you must rinse with water and allow to air-dry. While using, do not breathe spray
